Afternoon! I have a friend looking to move to Austin before their kiddo starts Kindergarten. They were set on Eanes but with all the recent announcements (Valley View closing, Spanish immersion struggling) they are expanding their search. Anyone have intel on this either in Eanes or elsewhere in Austin? They are open to public or private school. Thanks!

Hard to answer that question right now, I have 3 at the elementary level in Eanes. I think if they are able to wait till mid January they may have a better look at what the coming years in Eanes will look like. What I can say is that this community will fight for their kids education and if the board doesn’t get on the same page it’s going to be interesting what happens.

Can you provide a bit more clarification on the Eanes school you are zoned for, or if you have a short list of schools?

Agree… pretty broad question… especially if you haven’t decided between public or private… might want to narrow that down and ask again with a few more specifics. Education is struggling in general… the state of Texas is one of the lowest out of all 50 for public school funding…. People need to start with how they’re voting… even Eanes isn’t immune to the struggle.

Sorry for the broad question, to provide more details they are specifically looking at a few neighborhoods zoned for Barton creek elementary (public school option). I also heard this is the main school being affected by the closing of Valley View.

The private schools we are considering are regents, Trinity, st Michaels and also just learned about the Alpha school which is very intriguing.

            Any and all advice welcome!!

@Curious-Mom hi! We have a first grader at one of the eanes schools in Spanish immersion program and are involved in the merger conversation. They will vote on final decision mid January on if they will merge two elementary schools or spread them out more evenly and if they will keep/modify Spanish immersion. Applying to the schools doesn’t start until March so you will have time to decide once the school district has decided what they’re doing for 2025 year. I would still look into eanes but know that there will be some changes happening the next few years across the district. As for private, there are some great options including: St Michael’s Prep, Regents, Trinity, etc. hope this helps!

@Curious-Mom I have two in the Spanish Immersion program at Barton Creek, hopefully three next fall. We have had such great teachers and experiences these last five years, and it’s unfortunate we are facing this uncertainty now (merger/threatened Spanish program) but hoping these big decisions will be gentle for all and somehow preserve the small school feel of BCE. Feel free to message me for more info!

Just came across this article… not sure it helps but it does provide a lot of food for thought!
