I have avoided introducing this to my kids, but my 6 year old is asking why other kids have had elf on the shelf and if the elf is coming this year. They talk about it at school I guess. I really don’t want to do it….I feel like it’s just another distraction from what this season is about plus the time/energy component. Any advice?!

I hate it so much but my kids LOVE it. It’s actually a great motivator for goals and behavior for the kids bc our elf leaves notes complimenting their hardwork.
Our elf comes Dec 1 and brings some games for the family to play together. Godspeed!

I’ve managed to be elf-free by simply telling my 7 year old that Santa’s set it up so that parents can choose to sign up for an elf…orrrr not. And her mom chose not to sign up 😂 However last year she wrote to Santa that all she really wanted was an elf for Christmas, so I had an elf make an appearance Christmas morning alongside a note that she could only stay until her magic ran out…which…was promptly two days later 😂 she got her fill and I didn’t have to deal with more than I wanted to.

I also have somehow managed to avoid the topic, but I imagine my 6 year old will ask this year once kindergarten starts talking about it. I’ve started to look online at the ideas that last a few days (frozen/in the freezer if misbehaving, elf draws a Christmas family portrait - one member per night until final product, etc). I’ve also started looking at a few kits online for days I’m desperate and out of time and I’m reading nearly every article on google that says “quick and easy elf ideas” to grab a few. Good luck!
